I developed an idea for a future exhibition titled ‘Belonging: Tracing Steps’. It arises from the personal process of re-discovering and defining my identity as an artist after a long pause. The animations are influenced by my experience of Australia and approaches of Aboriginal artists in depicting their relationships to Country. The Videos are painted rather than animated and I am revisiting my own archive of analogue photographs taken during a variety of journeys through cities and rural areas. In this sense I am tracing steps, experiencing and interpreting these places, making new connections and transitions between places.

Belonging for me is something that is constantly negotiated as one passes from place to place being involved and experiencing different situations. In the exhibition the audience is provided with a tangible interface to explore and connect different films and sound, thereby making their own interpretations of the visual and audio material. In this way they can define their own sense of Belonging to these places. It is based on my work as part of a designer team developing the ‘Color Table’ in the EU project IP-City.
